"Why is this late?" "Why did you do that?" It seems like a logical root-cause question. But in human dynamics, WHY is a trap.
The Psycho-Logics of 'Why'
When a human hears 'Why', their brain accesses the Past. They look for a Justification or an Excuse.
"Why is it late?" -> "Because IT didn't send the file." (Blame).
"Why did you say that?" -> "Because I was tired." (Excuse).
'Why' produces stories, not solutions.
The Fix: Switch to 'What' and 'How'
These words access the Structure and the Future.
- Instead of "Why is it late?", ask: "What specifically caused the delay, and how do we recover the time?"
- Instead of "Why did you do that?", ask: "What was your intention in that moment?"
The Rule
Use 'Why' for machines (Engineering). Use 'What' and 'How' for people (Coaching).
